Seattle, Silly Travel Pics, and Coming Home

Today, we’re a bit of a travel blog.

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to be able to fly out to Seattle to enjoy this year’s Sakura-Con. The convention was a yearly treat before COVID made everything worse, so I was elated to be back. My friends and I ran around the convention space, did some tourist things, and ate some tasty seafood. Fun trip, would definitely recommend.

When traveling, the custom is to take photos. That said, I’m not interested in a bunch of photos of myself. How do I bridge that gap and make travel photos fun again?

Easy: change the photo’s subject. This 2B plushie has joined me on trips in past years, adding value every time. Do I want a picture of a place? No need for my dumb face: Here’s a 2B.

Bored in line or at the airport? 2B.

Just want to take a picture? 2B.

It’s silly, but having something on hand to take pictures of is a gamechanger. Bringing 2B along has actually caused me to want to take photos, rather than begrudgingly taking a couple shots to prove I was at a place. It also turns getting interesting pictures into a collaborative game – my friends would often help scope out or set up fun shots, like the one above. Give it a try sometime.

Sadly, all trips have to end, and you have to go back home, but the time away can be helpful to change your perspective. For me, all it’s taken is ~30 hours back home to cement that I don’t want to go back to my usual day-to-day. I kind of abhor it. A single weekend has got me aggressively motivated. There is a better me to be, and I’m headed toward him. For the first time, I’m starting to figure out a niche for myself, and maybe even how to carve it out (details on that as I make plans more concrete). Is this what ambition feels like? It’s new to me, but I’m here for it. For now, I’m going to head in that direction.

Next time, a bit more on Hunter 2e, as my game of that is finished for now. Maybe a little bit on the Konosuba RPG, too, now that I have a copy.

Until then, may you find that tiny spark of ambition.
